Frank Spring

About: Spring is here. However, it is not a Spring where we feel we can walk uninhibited in the fragrant air, smiling inwardly, if not outwardly, and enjoying the sun. Our very being is compromised by our environment and, sadly, each other. Normal comforts have been shifted drastically. Art cannot take away our discomfort, but can be a salve and a way for connecting. We offer this gallery as a way to be in this moment, to hold our concerns gently, and to sway or dance with them, and despite them.

Twelve artists with different backgrounds interpret “spring” in their own way. The result is a collage of imagery, poetry and colors. We hope that it is a soothing act of recognition: of vulnerability, strength, adaptability, humanity.

We are all inventing how to engage in these critical times. In the gallery, we are longing for the textures of art - seeing up-close the marks an artist makes, the way that paper and fabric reflects light. We long for the moments of being absorbed by colors and the impact that material art can provide. We long for the physical spaces, their sounds, the company of others that makes an outing complete. This gallery is an attempt to compensate; it is a work-in-progress. Therefore, we are giving as much information as possible to deepen the ways to connect to the art and the artists while viewing on computer screens.

Journey In Color

Stripes.jpg

“This exhibit is called a Journey In Color because as an artist it’s been a journey to learn the power of visuality and its transformative effects. I feel the color in a simple pencil, or a spray can, or the magic stroke of a brush, but from there it’s a crossing to witness pigmentation and color in endless forms.

From nature, to culture and the human race, color has the ability to remind us of something beyond the norm - color has a voice of its own.

In this information age, we all have the choice to choose art that has power, transmission of energy, and that can take us on a memorable journey.” - Atu Ram

When: November 16th - January 24th

Where: RAWSPACE Gallery

Rhythm Inside Color

Atu Ram is honored and exited to be exhibiting his new works at El Taller Latino Americano. Having grown up inspired by the works of the El Barrio art scene, the opportunity to present his work in El Barrio itself feels like home. Atu considers the beauty of El Barrio central to the cultural fabric of New York City and looks forward to his first exhibition in this legendary neighborhood.

About The Exhibit: RHYTHM IN COLOR is a solo exhibition by New York-based African-American artist Atu Ram exploring his artistic relationship with nature, texture, rhythm, color and symbol. His works reference a myriad of multicultural gestures in a playful, organic manner that demonstrates his sensitivity to balance. In some works one will appreciate his ability for creating abstraction out of common forms, illustrating these forms in novel ways that are surprising. In others, his approach to color is percussive and beautiful.

Atu Ram was born in the Bronx up grew in Harlem with parents from down south and the Caribbean. They taught him a love for nature while being exposed to the multicultural art of Harlem that created curiosity and guided him to develop an inner awareness between life and art. He believes art has the ability to transform the mind.
